The program for Social Work pretends to form professionals capable of making, in a critic, thoughtful and analytic form; observations, descriptions and social analysis with the purpose to design, select and propose strategies that when applied to social problems, propitiate the sustainable human development through the generation, transmission and application of the principles of social work as scientific and professional discipline, parting from theoretical perspectives.

To achieve the proposed general objective, the following specific objectives of the degree will be addressed:

• Acquire knowledges on the social environment and human behavior and study those realities with social work tools;
• Develop in the students a critical research attitude of the social reality;
• Form students engaged with social justice and human rights, promoting the empowerment of people and their skills to co-negotiate and self-manage;
• Propitiate the knowledge of the social reality to facilitate the social intervention from critic, reflexive and methodological adequate postures to propitiate the community development, both in the urban ambience as rural;
• Form students with a significant experience in social work guaranteeing the interiorization of the values, conducts and attitudes of the profession.

Description of knowledge
The knowledge the applicant must possess to enter this academic program are the following:

1. Have basic knowledges of social sciences.
2. Have basic knowledge in mathematics and biology.

Description of skills
The minimum academic skills that the applicant must possess are social and intellectual:

1. Skill to listen and advise people so they can solve their problems.
2. Skill for human relationships and to work in collaboration and easiness to socialize in new ambiences and different from their personal environment.
3. Skill to solve conflictive situations and conciliate the parts.
4. Skill to critically reflect on their environment.
5. Capable of observation, skills in reading and capability of analysis and synthesis. Likewise, capability to communicate both orally and written.
6. Skill for autonomous learning.

Description of attitudes
The desirable attitudes in the applicant are:

1. Sensitivity and social solidarity.
2. Altruism
3. Promote social change and problem solution
4. Defend the rights of people and promote a just and equal social development
5. Capable of amazement with social reality.

7. Open mind to try and comprehend the social phenomena.

The basic values the applicant should have and those that will developed further are:

The knowledge will be measured by a Basic Knowledge and Skills Exam (EXHCOBA), or any other approved by the Council of the Division. The skill and attitudes will be evaluated through a psychometric exam and qualitative instruments, such as the realization of personal interviews.

This formation allows to be a professional in social intervention. The social workers give a concrete support so people, families, groups and collectivities can acquire the competencies and resources they need to improve their function in society, ensure their development and encourage their wellbeing. The graduate from Social Work will have the following profile:

• The graduate researches social problems and intervenes in their transformation with social work tools;
• Contextualizes the reality and the social problems where they intervene in a local, regional, national and international level;
• Is committed with the development of the democracy, citizenship, justice and social wellbeing and eases the empowerment of the capabilities and resources of groups, people and communities. Mediates and channels between this social actors;
• Elaborates diagnostics of social needs, designs, implements and negotiates social projects from a participative and auto management perspective;
• Manages resources and makes decision in situations of conflict;
• Trains, facilitates and divulges knowledge in general to the community.

To obtain the academic degree certificate in Social Work, the student must fulfill what is disposed in the Art. 62, Fraction I & II, Clause A of the current Academic Statute of the University of Guanajuato:

I.-Complete the corresponding syllabus;

II.-Make among the chosen modalities by the Divisional Council or Academy from high school, as the adequate for the study plans given by the division or school, some of the following:
a) Thesis, research, not professional exercise, and sustain an exam before a jury to defend in the conditions established by the Divisional Council […];

According the Art. 62 of the Academic Statute and according on agreements of the Divisional Council on July 2, 2010 (L-CD-CSYH-E-2010-5-01 & L-CD-CSYH-E-2010-5-02) and from September 7, 2010 (L-CD-CSYH-2010-13-04), to obtain the title from the educational programs in the division of social sciences and humanities, campus Leon, the student may choose from the following modalities:

1. Academic excellence.
2. CENEVAL (for the degrees who have it available)
3. Publication of an individual work in an arbitrated magazine.
4. Thesis
5. Professional exercise work, in its variants of ethnographic report, professional practice report or execution of a cultural project.

In accordance with the same Art. 62 of the current Academic Statute of the University of Guanajuato, to obtain the degree, it will be necessary to:

III.-Complete the professional social service; and

IV.-The rest academic requirements, previously established in the corresponding curricular structure.

The Divisional Councils and the High School Academic Council will set, in the respective area of competence, the bases or requirements that should satisfy the modalities that refer to the Fraction II or others, procuring in all cases the maximum quality, hence, a highly competitive level.

The completion of the degree will concrete by any of these modalities and the other described requirements.

In case of making a thesis, they expect the result of the work throughout a year during the Research seminar, Field work, Seminar of systemization and Degree seminar; subjects that together have the purpose to provide the theoretical and practical tools of anthropological research and inquiry. After which, the student should sustain an oral and public degree exam, before a committee formed by the thesis director and synod. The purpose is to publicly evaluate the competencies, knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired by the student

Professional Social Service

The university guidelines in this point prescribes, in the Art. 98 of the current Academic Statute, that:

Social Service is the set of activities that every student forms in the commitment to society and project their action in benefit of the same.

Art. 101, paragraph 3 of the current Academic Statute establishes that:

The Professional Social Service is a temporary and mandatory exercise, where the terms and modalities of the applicable legislations and according the nature of the academic formation, puts in service of society the professional preparations of the student, with possible remuneration.

When the professional social service is included in the syllabus, it will be made, according what is stipulated, when it is not part of the same, it will be done, during or at the end of corresponding program, abiding to the guidelines established by the Divisional Councils and the High School Academic Council, addressing the legal applicable dispositions.

Second language requirement

As a requirement to graduate, having a second language is also considered. By an agreement on September 7, 2010 L-CD-CSYH-2010-13-06 of the Divisional Council, to obtain the degree in Social Work, the student must accredit the level 400 of a second language, with a record of the level or a record of the leveling exam with level IV, issued by the Language Center of Campus Leon or B2, European Structure, or 450 TOEFL points in case of English. To accredit a language, you can also present a certificate from language academies recognized by the Department of Public Education (SEP) who accredit their equivalence of level, or certificate of studies from a bilingual school.

Administrative requirements to graduate

For the effect of this proposal, the administrative requirements to graduate are:

• General certificate of studies, which will possible to request if the student has completely covered the number of credits established in the program.
• Three oval-shaped, black and white photographs (degree size).
• Letter of professional social service.
• No-debt letter from Treasury.
• No-debt letter from UG’s General Direction of Libraries.

Total number of credits of the educational program: 228 from which 224 correspond to courses and the 4 left to 100 hours of complementary activities.
