Universidad de Guanajuato

The foundation of the University of Guanajuato goes back to the year 1732. Since then, the university adopted several names, until March 1945, when the rank of University was acquired as well as the name for which is now known.

With a population of nearly 34,000 students, today, the University of Guanajuato is present in 12 cities within the entity through four campuses and one high school college with ten high schools.

The impulse for student comprehensive development coordinations, promote the sport through tournaments and general activities in campuses and high-school grounds.

University Representatitve Teams

The Student Development Unit varsity Sports Coordination summons all UG's students to join a team and have the best fit and sports techniques to represent the institution in different forums in the region and country.

Granted Scholarships for social-economic reasons

Institutional Scholarships
Without considering GPA, they can be requested from the first enrollment.

1. Social Equity Scholarship:

Promotes the social mobility in groups and regions identified as outcast or with social-economic delay.

2. Food Scholarship:

Destined for students who validate that food alimoney is essential to continue studying. It grants in-kind support consisting in breakfast and lunch provided from Monday to Friday in coffee shops or university’s mess halls.

3. Sponsored Scholarship:

SELF-MANAGED economic support by the student to an individual or entity, to be applied for the maintenance in their academic & extension activities.

  • Sponsor benefit: The University of Guanajuato will issue a donation receipt to the sponsor which is tax deductible by the sponsored amount once the money income is in the bank account and destiny at the payment of the scholarship.
  • Validity of the sponsored scholarship: It can be requested since the first able class day until the last day of final exams of trimester, quarter and semiannual terms accordingly without any summon.
  • The monthly amount of the scholarship can be from 12 to 90 daily minimum wages current in the State of Guanajuato.
College Community Impact Projects Granted Scholarships

Economic support given to students with an interest to develop projects that benefit the university’s community. When granting, the social-economic situation is not considered.

1. Research Scholarship:

Addresed to the students who from their second enrollment, are accepted in any research project endorsed by the line, program or research project responsible.

2. University’s Community Scholarship:

For students who from their second enrollement, collaborate in university’s porgrams or projects.

3. Extension Scholarship:

Addressed for students who perform outstandingly the corresponding extension activities in their current program. That contribute to the projection of the academic entity (High-School or Division) and the Institute. This scholarship can be requested from the first enrollment.

4. Academic Excellence Scholarship:

>Assigned economic support from each academic entity scholarship committee to those students who from the second enrollment have the best GPA in the previous immediate school period by program. The scholarship rises to $6,600.00 MXN divided into five monthly payments of $1,320.00 each.

  • Scholar Accidents Medical Insurance

    A service for the students that consist on receiving medical attention. From a medical treatment to a surgery, hospitalization or use of infirmary and medical services. It means when a student suffers an accident by doing any teaching, research or extension activity, the cost of the maximum cost assured will be refund.

  • “Safe Home” Program

    A program carried out in collaboration with state & municipal civil protection directed for students in Campus Guanajuato who live in the city of Guanajuato. It has the purpose to prevent & detect through courtesy visits, material risks at home, to reduce the chance of suffering any risk or accident that endangers the goods and physical integrity.

  • Mass Events Support

    Consists in managing and coordinate the security, prevention and medical services offered through state & municipal authorities with the purpose to prepare in case of an incident during the realization of the events organized by the University of Guanajuato.

  • Road Safety Pilots Program

    The program is an initiative that sums the federal government efforts through the Health department, the International Automovilistic Federation (FIA) Mexico, TELMEX racing team, Mexican Red Cross and other public and private institutions. It has the purpose to create a road culture that contributes on saving more than sixty-thousand lives in Mexico for the rest of the decade.

It consists on making conscience in the student community about the most common risks that are present in the different vacation seasons through a brochure with preventive measures and safety recommendations.

Sustainable Physical Health Profile
  • Seeks that the student knows and values their physical health as well as the need for physical activities.
  • Provides attention & personalized follow-up of students who have been detected with risk in their physical health.

In this area we have programs that favor your physical, mental and social welfare “Get close”.

1. Health self-care promotion Programn (PROPAS)

The one where applied actions & strategies favor the development of the self-care culture and acquisition of healthy lifestyles.

One of the objectives is to increase the active student community in health promotion.

Benefits:
    • Health Comprehensive Valuation

      Service granted by nursing whose objective is to know the student's health (past & present) to create a complete file and provide orientation in preventing and channeling (if necessary). The gathered information is confidential; the valuation is done manually.

    • (IMSS) Affiliation

      Service that the student requires from the infirmary personnel which allows to receive free medical attention in the IMSS (Social Security Mexican Institute) Clinics. Being affiliated with IMSS is a requirement for some academic procedures.

    • Nursing Consultation

      Activity developed by infirmary in which advise to protect, promote and if it is the case, restore the student's physical health, is attended & promoted.

    • Vaccination campaigns

      Activity developed by infirmary with the purpose to generate immunity against diseases related with the age or health situation that the country or state face. They happen every six months.

    • Interdisciplinary Health Self-care Promotion Projects & Promotion

      In the divisions of high-school colleges, there is a work team (PROPAS Cell) composed by psychologists, nurses, nutritionists, and educational counselors that develop joint projects with the student community. They promote a self-care health culture and improve the personal, collective conditions and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

    • Workshops

      Work sessions that seek to diminish psycho-social situations in topics such as interpersonal relations, affection & communication, sexuality, genre equity, time management, exam preparation, etc.

    • Group & Individual Psychological Orientation

      This service offers the student a listening space allowing to explore different alternatives before an emotional situation that affects their school & personal activities. There is a maximum of ten sessions through qualified psychological counselors located in different divisions and high-school colleges; the student has the faculty to decide where he wants the service.

    • Focus or Thematic Groups

      Parting from a topic of interest and an identified need in the students, the advisor-psychologist (nursing or educational) will perform work sessions with a group of students, providing information and favoring participation with the purpose to generate reflexion.

    • Channeling

      External channeling: Implies the action of suggesting the student the possibility to require any service from an institution different from UG such as IMSS, SSA or SSP among others.

      Internal channeling: Action of suggesting the student the possibility to require a service from PROPAS areas:

      1.Psychology
      2.Nursing
      3.Nutrition
      4.Educational development

2. Sustainable & Physical health profiel:

Aim: Promote healthy lifestyles in the university community through education actions and health prevention with priority to people detected with higher health risk.

Purpose: Diminish the risk factors linked to inactivity that favor chronic degenerative diseases such as diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemias, obesity, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases among others, through a set of actions that encourage the adoption of healthy lifestyles and habits.

  • Components:

    Annual health assessment through a stress test with cardiac monitoring, focusing in preventive and personalized through age.

    Priority attention for college students detected with low levels or atrocious aerobic condition, facilitating the realization of a minimum physical activity by cardiac monitoring in the physical activation modules installed on purpose, accompanied by health education actions.
